University of New Mexico at Taos Fueled by Solar
DuraTrack HZ™ tracking system provides 100% of campus power needs
Albuquerque, NM – 7/1/09 – Array Technologies has announced the completion of a 500 kW DuraTrack HZ™ system at the University of New Mexico’s Taos campus, which is now generating 100% of the school’s energy needs. Built by EPC American Capital Energy, it is the first community college to be completely powered by renewable energy sources in the country.
Array Technologies’ DuraTrack HZ™ tracking system was chosen for its ability to generate up to 25% more energy than fixed-tilt applications—a net gain that translates into increased savings over the lifetime of the project. Coupled with the superior design and functionality of the DuraTrack HZ™ system, UNM Taos campus will reap the financial and environmental benefits of clean solar energy.
The University of New Mexico at Taos has taken on several sustainability initiatives and efficiency improvements on campus, including installing electric thermal storage units and outfitting its buildings with advanced energy management systems.
