Memphis Agricenter 1 MW System Online
Site becomes largest single-axis tracking system in Tennessee
Albuquerque, NM – 5/6/12 – The International Agricenter in Memphis, TN. is looking even greener this year with the addition of 1 MW of DuraTrack HZ™ solar trackers. Owned and financed by Silicon Ranch, the site was constructed by LightWave Solar and the energy generated will be used by Memphis Light Gas and Water under a power-purchasing agreement.
The DuraTrack HZ™ system was chosen for its proven dependability, smart design and field tested performance that comes from Array Technologies’ articulating drivelines, allowing for fewer motors per MW than any other tracking system on the market. Simplicity of design and its ability to maximize land area, coupled with up to a 25% net power gain over fixed-rack applications allows companies to maximize their return on investment for every project.
The largest urban farm and research test facility in the world, the International Agricenter is renowned for its expertise in agriculture, offering educational programs on a variety of farming techniques and environment resource management. Webcams onsite and an interactive power display of the solar field will serve to further its mission to educate and inform the public about sustainability, both in the ground and from the sun.
The site, which is visible from Walnut Grove, will offset 38,350 tons of CO2 entering the atmosphere, equivalent to removing 5,000 cars from the road over its 25 year lifespan.
The Agricenter has the option to purchase the array after 10 years per the agreement.
