City of Hayward 1 MW System Now Operational
DuraTrack HZ™ system provides 24% of facility’s energy needs
Albuquerque, NM – 3/9/11 – A 1 MW DuraTrack HZ™ tracking system installed at the Hayward Water Pollution Control Facility went online today, which will provide almost a quarter of the energy needed to treat wastewater for 220,000 residents. Constructed by EPC REC solar, the system covers eight acres of previously unoccupied land at the treatment facility.
Part of the City of Hayward’s 2009 Climate Action Plan, the DuraTrack HZ™ system will help the city reduce greenhouse emissions and save taxpayer money by locking in a levelized cost of energy that is a hedge against rising utility costs.
Generating up to 25% more energy than typical fixed-rack installations, Array Technologies’ DuraTrack HZ™ system was chosen due to its field-tested reliability, minimization of materials and innovative articulating driveline design that makes installation easy and less expensive than other systems on the market today.
The system is expected to offset 24 million pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking 183 cars off the road annually for the 25 year lifetime of the project.
