Array Technologies Completes 1 MW DuraTrack HZ™ System for Ranch in Ducor, California
Limoneira’s system set to meet one third of energy needs
Albuquerque, NM – 8/29/08 – Limoneira, one of the largest producers of avocados in the country and a leading West Coast purveyor of citrus fruit, now has a new addition to its California ranch: a 1 MW DuraTrack HZ™ system designed by Array Technologies. Taking up 5.5 acres of land in Ventura County just north of Los Angeles, the site is set to generate about a third of the energy required to power the ranch’s day-to-day operations.
The DuraTrack HZ™ tracking system was chosen for the job, as maximizing the 5.5 acres of prime property was essential to making the project cost effective. Thanks to the innovative design, the system will increase the amount of electricity generated by the modules by tracking the sun while using fewer motors per MW than any other single axis tracker. The DuraTrack HZ™ system’s low maintenance and high reliability will ensure that the ranch can spend less time monitoring the system and more time picking their delicious fruit.
Perpetual Power, the EPC for the project, installed the system for Limoneira, which was financed through a direct bank loan and will be serviced by the company for the length of the lease.
Limoneira planted a variety of native plants underneath the arrays to minimize dust coating on the modules, while a small heard of sheep ensures that the plants will remain trimmed and low to the ground.
