1 MW Completed in Taylorsville, North Carolina
Solar farm will provide power to approximately 150 homes
Albuquerque, NM – 10/28/10 – Array Technologies has announced the completion of a 1 MW site in Taylorsville, NC. today, delivering clean solar energy to residents of Alexander County and the surrounding area. Owned and operated by SunEdison, the power generated onsite will be sold to EnergyUnited under a 20 year power-purchasing agreement.
Designed for the heavy wind loads and tornado-like conditions that often occur in this part of North Carolina, Array Technologies’ DuraTrack HZ™ tracking system was chosen for the project due to its ability to generate up to 25% more energy than typical fixed-rack applications as well as its durable and robust performance. Full scale wind tunnel testing ensures optimal performance of the DuraTrack, HZ™ system, and a windstow switch triggers the array to lie flat during periods of extreme wind loads to avoid damage to the trackers.
The DuraTrack, HZ™ tracking system will help the company meet North Carolina’s renewable energy standard, which requires public utilities to generate 6% of their energy from renewable sources by 2015, 10% by 2017, and 12.5% by 2021.
